How did Jupiter get so big? Did it "eat" chunks of planets?

Astronomers are studying the possibility that Jupiter got so big because it "eats" chunks of other planets.

The gas giant is called that because it's made of mostly gas. It is named after the Greek and Roman gods and the thought is Jupiter absorbed a series of small "planetsimals" en route to claiming its place as the biggest planet in the solar system.

Jupiter is known for the famous red spot, and it turns out the planet is littered with hurricanes. Juno was able to measure variations in graviational pull above different locations on the planet's surface. Astronomers found a high concentration of "metals", elements heavier than hydrogen and helium, towards the center of the planet.

This was the cause for belief that Jupiter sucked in pieces of other planets and it made its size so big.
